Concord Housing + Redevelopment’s vision for its South Main Street property was realized with the recent completion of a series of improvements that will ensure the property and its market-rate housing remains a valuable asset to the Concord community.
Concord Housing + Redevelopment (CH+R) Executive Director John Hoyt is pleased to announce Jerry Madden, Executive Director of The Friends Program, has been appointed to a second term (2014-2015) as Chairman of the Concord Housing + Redevelopment Board of Commissioners.
When Concord Housing + Redevelopment purchased the property on South Main Street, the building’s structural deficiencies were a major factor that needed to be addressed in the renovation process. Initial improvements to the property included electrical, heating and hot water, along with installing fire alarms and renovating the existing apartments.
Thompson Square, Concord Housing + Redevelopment’s newest property in downtown Concord, provides much needed housing for people with special needs. The new, brightly lit apartments, conveniently located on the ground level of the John F. Kennedy housing complex, are handicapped accessible, meeting the needs of people who require additional services to help them live independently.
When the curtain finally opens on Thompson Square, Concord Housing + Redevelopment will be able to provide much needed special needs housing in downtown Concord. The project, which includes the repurposing of the former CH+R offices and an aging auditorium, located on the ground level of the John F. Kennedy housing complex, was not without its challenges. Not only were three of the new apartments being created in a sunken theater, they were being constructed in a building with 82 occupied apartments—making the construction process all that much more difficult.
Concord, N.H. – December 18, 2013 – John Hoyt, Executive Director of Concord Housing + Redevelopment has been named to a state-wide commission on housing issues. The 30-member board was created with the passage of Senate Bill 185. The bill officially establishes a commission on housing policy and regulation to identify and reduce barriers to the creation of affordable housing.
Concord, N.H. – December 5, 2013–Concord Housing + Redevelopment is pleased to announce that the organization will be working with Hutter Construction on a new building project that will provide for special needs housing in the Capital City. Hutter Construction, located in New Ipswich, N.H., estimates that the project will take four months to complete.

Madden, most recently, served as the Board’s Vice Chairman. He is the Executive Director of The Friends Program, and former Concord Chief of Police.
Concord, N.H. – (March 20, 2013) – Concord Housing + Redevelopment was recently designated as a high performer by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), after being awarded a performance rating of 100% in the Section 8 Management Assessment Program (SEMAP). SEMAP measures the performance of public housing authorities that administer the Housing Choice Voucher program.
Show Hoppers Dance Boutique Leases Space.
Concord Housing + Redevelopment (CH+R) announces it has leased retail space at its 65 South Main Street property. CH+R recently purchased and renovated the South Main Street property, modernizing space for two retail businesses. Show Hoppers Dance Boutique, opening this month, increases the occupancy level on Main Street and brings another boost to The Capital City’s redevelopment initiatives.
