Concord Housing + Redevelopment Open The Doors on Pitman Place
Concord, N.H. –Concord Housing + Redevelopment (CH+R) is pleased to announce that eleven new apartments are now open and occupied at Pitman Place. The apartments financed by NHHFA have been specifically designed to solve a unique housing challenge in the city – providing affordable housing, where housing is provided in tandem with social service programs related to the needs of the resident.
Pitman PlacePitman Place is a showcase for innovation in creating more housing opportunities to Concord’s low and, moderate income, residents. The apartments at Pitman Place were constructed within the CH+R’s former offices at the existing Crutchfield Housing Complex
“The Pitman Place apartments are an inventive way to turn space that wasn’t being used any more into something useful and important,” said John Hoyt, CH+R’s Executive Director. “When we moved into our new offices, we saw the opportunity to redevelop that space into much-needed housing units. The whole project was cost-effective and is a testament to our organization’s forward-thinking efforts at redeveloping existing space and creating housing in Concord for people who need it most.
At Pitman Place, Sullivan Construction of Bedford, New Hampshire, was tasked with building the apartments with features to make the residents feel right at home. All units are easily adaptable for mobility concerns and are easily accessible without needing to use an elevator. Interior configuration, fixtures and appliances meet ADA design rules. The scope of this project will add a secure ground floor office space for counselors to meet with clients. In addition, the community space will be renovated, which currently serves as a meeting space for residents and formal group meetings.
Pitman Place residents will also receive comprehensive services through a variety of organizations, including: Riverbend, Community Bridges, the Visiting Nurse Association, Meals on Wheels, the Belknap-Merrimack County Action Program, and Concord Housing + Redevelopment.
