The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program

Choosing a home and a neighborhood is a very personal decision. The Housing Choice Voucher Program allows families to select housing of their choice in neighborhoods of their choice. The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program works as a rent subsidy allowing families to pay a reasonable share of income for rent with Concord Housing + Redevelopment making up the difference up to a specific limit. The subsidy paid to the landlord, called the Housing Assistance Payment (HAP), is usually the difference between 30% of household income and the contract rent. Concord Housing + Redevelopment will determine eligibility for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program, however, it is up to the landlord to examine the applicant’s history to ensure the selection of a responsible tenant. Concord Housing + Redevelopment administers 224 Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers in our community.

Applicants need to meet eligibility criteria and income limits. Our application can be downloaded or obtained by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to our Main Office. They can also be obtained by coming to our Main Office at 10 Ferry Street. After completing an application, CH+R makes an initial determination of eligibility based on income and family size.  Date of application and local preferences determine the order of applicants on our wait list.  Eligible applicants will receive notification of their approximate wait time for their name to reach the top of our wait list.
